CSEC PROVIDER TRAINING

Youth who have experienced commercial sexual exploitation have unique sets of needs, requiring a comprehensive approach to engagement and support. WestCoast has developed multiple trainings to help service providers support commercially sexually exploited youth. We’ve also created tools for early identification of exploitation in order to provide earlier intervention.

CSE-IT TRAINING

The CSE-IT is a validated screening tool developed by WestCoast to improve early identification of trafficked youth. To learn more about the tool, and how to implement screening in your organization please visit the CSE-IT page.

The CSE-IT training addresses the importance of early identification and presents the CSE-IT as a method of screening and identifying commercially sexually exploited youth. The training describes the structure and philosophy of the CSE-IT and provides a framework for engaging with sexually exploited youth, along with suggestions for talking with youth. Please fill out the CSE-IT Inquiry to learn more about our training options for single users and whole agencies.

We also offer Train-the-Trainer (T3) certification for users that have been using the tool for at least 6 months. Already a T3 certified Training? Access CSE-IT Training Materials.

CSEC 102 TRAINING

Funded by the California Department of Social Services (CDSS), CSEC 102 is a 16-hour training course offering advanced and comprehensive training on best practices for serving youth that are commercially sexually exploited. This course is intended for California county employees and community partners that have already completed some form of CSEC 101 training and want to build on their understanding. Topics covered include: how the trauma of exploitation impacts behavior and health, vulnerabilities and factors that increase risk for commercial sexual exploitation, the cycles of change and healing for youth impacted by sexual exploitation, how trauma informed care (TIC) principles can be applied when working with youth experiencing exploitation, and helpful frameworks when working with youth who are disproportionately impacted such as youth of color, LGBTQ+, and Native youth).

Please note this training is free for California providers. This is a multi-day training and all modules must be taken in order.

This CDSS sponsored training is free to all California-based providers in  settings included but not limited to: child welfare, juvenile justice, healthcare, mental health, and education.

"This is the absolute best training I have participated in covering exploitation. I appreciate centering survivors because I was able to receive realistic accounts of what was helpful and harmful from providers, and appropriate action items and areas for collaboration."
