HOW FURS WORKS
When youth and caregivers contact the FURS statewide hotline, they’re connected with counselors that are ready to listen and talk about their concerns ranging from frustrations at home to crisis situations. For Alameda County youth and caregivers, the hotline staff will connect callers with WestCoast counselors to receive additional support on the phone. We will then meet with the youth and/or caregiver in person within 1-3 hours, or at a designated time, to stabilize crisis situations or address other needs. WestCoast can also refer youth and caregivers to longer term services in the community such as ongoing mental health services or support with accessing housing or educational assistance.
